Commercial Development

Indian Railways (IR) has an extensive land bank, comprising approximately 43,000 hectares of vacant land. Indian Railways follows a professional approach to realise their potential. Recognizing the potential of these surplus land holdings, a systematic approach has been adopted. The zonal Railways are tasked with identifying land that is not expected to be required for operational purposes in the foreseeable future. Once identified, such land parcels are entrusted to RLDA in a phased manner for the purpose of commercial development.

This collaborative effort between the zonal Railways and RLDA ensures the optimal utilization of surplus Railway land, transforming these unutilized assets into vibrant commercial ventures. Through commercial development, RLDA seeks to unlock the latent value of Railway land, thereby contributing to the overall financial health of Indian Railways while facilitating urban development and economic growth.

Railway land, spanning the nation, is a valuable resource with untapped potential.

This value mining of land parcel by RLDA endeavours to develop these land parcels to generate revenue, maximize their economic potential and generate opportunities. Opportunities include commercial and residential development, enhancing commercial facilities, green initiatives.

To make the most of this potential, a streamlined process involves identifying surplus land, assessing its potential, planning development, complying with regulations, generating revenue, and contributing to urban development.

This value mining out of untapped Railway land benefits Railways financially and fuels economic growth, job creation, and urban development.

It is a win-win approach that maximizes resource utility for the nation's benefit.
